IFI Education:
Supporting film in school curricula and promoting
moving image culture for young audiences.
Welcome to our schools’ programme for Spring 2010.
The start of the year means award ceremonies for film, from Golden Globes to that small golden statuette known as Oscar. We’ve added the hotly-tipped titles Bright Star and The Hurt Locker to our lineup, both pretty impressive films and not only for having female directors - a fairly rare occurrence in big name filmmaking.
We had a terrific response to our programme last term, with several sold-out events, despite well-founded fears regarding the impact of education cutbacks, and we are greatly encouraged by your ongoing support. Another feature of the last programme was our Film Focus survey. The response to this revealed some interesting facts which will inform the project’s next phase of action research.
With a host of titles to engage you and your students throughout Spring, film topics include Iraq, football, Vogue magazine and love in a time of war. IFI also launches two new programme strands which may be of interest: TEEN SCREEN Film Club on Wednesdays for those aged 15-18 who want to experience a world of cinema beyond the blockbusters, and IFI Family which offers a special family screening of new and different films on one Sunday each month. Further information on these and all our events can be found on our website www.ifi.ie. We hope you find something of interest and as ever, welcome your suggestions.
