The Education Department (IFI Education) of the Irish Film Institute provides the opportunity for appreciation and critical interaction with film by a wide constituency both within and outside the formal education sector. It offers a range of evening courses open to the general public as well as courses and events designed specifically for specialised interest groups.

This year the schools section reached an annual audience of more than 16,000 students, providing in excess of fifty screenings of films in an educational context, workshops, educational materials, school visits and teacher training programmes. The department caters for both primary and secondary levels of the Irish education system.

In the past year we have run Evening Courses in Russian cinema, Book-to-film adaptation, Irish Documentaries.

During the summer we have, for the past 4 years, run a practical film-making course for teenagers.

And every month we screen films for older people, ensuring that audiences of over 55 have a comfortable environment in which to enjoy film culture on a regular basis.

The expansion of our Access Department has opened doors all over the country for the exhibition of film. More information can be found on the REGIONAL SCREENINGS page.
