NOSFERATU + 3EPKANO

WITH Live Musical Accompaniment by 3epkano

The earliest surviving adaptation of Stoker’s novel, F. W. Murnau’s film was an unauthorised version of the book in which the character names were changed in a failed attempt to conceal its origins. The film is best remembered for Count Orlok’s monstrous, rodent-like appearance and its iconic use of expressionist shadows and set-design. In Orlok, Murnau created a spectral and highly cinematic image of the vampire that is more uncannily supernatural than Stoker’s original. Through optical effects, including fast-motion, superimpositions and dissolves, Orlok is a haunting presence in the film, more ghost-like than physical entity as he silently preys upon the unknowing German community of Wisborg. Despite the Count’s monstrous appearance, the film also contains a hint of the sympathetic vampires to come as Orlok seems at times to be a victim of his own bloodlust, trapped by a desire that figures in his own demise.

3epkano are a Dublin based, seven-piece collective who are dedicated to producing original soundtracks for silent and avant-garde cinema. We are very pleased to have the band accompany this special screening of Nosferatu.

The admission price for this event will be €18.
