STUCK

Stuart Gordon is best known for the horror classic Re-Animator. His most recent work, such as the David Mamet adaptation Edmond, has been something of a departure but still retains the director’s interest in the fears and anxieties provoked by great horror. Stuck continues this trend. Apparently based on a real-life case, Stuck is much scarier than most films featuring zombies and chainsaws. Brandi (Mena Suvari) accidentally hits Tom (Stephen Rae) while driving home one night after too many drinks and pills. The impact causes Tom’s body to lodge in her car’s windscreen. The panicked woman drives home and locks the car in her garage, leaving the severely injured Tom with the horrific realisation that he must somehow escape if he wants to survive. With a skill worthy of Hitchcock, Gordon has twisted this supposedly true story into an excruciating thriller armed with a sharp and jagged edge of black humour. A festival highlight that comes highly recommended.

U.S.A.-CANADA, 2007. COLOUR. DOLBY DIGITAL STEREO. 35MM. 94 MIN.
